The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has reported the destruction of 50 hectares of marijuana farms and the seizure of 17 tonnes of the substance in 2023.
In a briefing with the press in Benin on Tuesday, Buba Wakama, the state commander of the agency, revealed that the 46 farms were scattered across different parts of the state.
Wakawa condemned the suspects for choosing to cultivate the illegal plant instead of growing food crops for the public.
During the same period, the agency also confiscated 17.955 tonnes of marijuana and other psychotropic substances.

According to him, “The largest quantity of drugs seized is marijuana, which is 17.487 tonnes while cocaine, heroin, and codeine syrup, among other psychotropic drugs, constituted the remaining value.”
